A super sea kayak that loves to rock hop

Image: SKUK Romany Image: SKUK Romany sea kayak

The original kayak design from Nigel Dennis, the Romany is fast for its length (4.88m), very manoeuvrable and stable. Designed for rough water and ease of handling in the surf, the Romany is the first choice for many coaches. If you are looking for a super day or weekend sea kayak that loves to rock hop, the Romany is for you!

The original Romany and its low volume sister the Romany LV are now joined by other Romany models. Launched in 2008 the Romany S RM is the first plastic model from Sea Kayaking UK. Both the Romany S RM and the fibreglass Romany S love to surf!

If you're a larger or taller paddler, then the new Romany Excel is specifically designed for you. It's longer and faster but still with the classic Romany feel.

Like all SKUK kayaks, the Romany models come with a Kari-Tek skeg, decklines with recessed fittings, three hatches, waterproof internal bulkheads and includes a compass recess.

SKUK kayaks are fitted with a skeg which counteracts the kayak’s tendency to turn towards the wind - to weather-cock. SKUK’s skeg systems, developed in conjunction with Kari-Tek, use a robust skeg box made from durable ABS plastic. It’s moulded in one piece, making it watertight, and it has a large dagger-board shaped blade which drops further into the water thus increasing performance.

Three types of skeg are available in your new SKUK kayak: click here for details.

  • Hydro Skeg® - heightened reliability, increased levels of control, less prone to damage, virtually maintenance free
  • Wire Skeg - positive, easy action, simple to use slider. A wire skeg is fitted as standard.
  • Rope Skeg - the simple, low cost option

Skeg Rudder System

The new Kari-Tek Skeg Rudder System (SRS) is now available. Both a skeg and an understern rudder, the SRS gives you maximum flexibility. With all the great features of the Hydro Skeg® plus the benefits of a rudder, the SRS is set to change kayak rudders for ever. Click here for details.
