Kari-Tek’s innovation doesn’t stop with the Hydro Skeg®. The revolutionary new Skeg Rudder System(SRS) is now available. The SRS is both a skeg and a rudder, giving you maximum flexibility. The skeg function is controlled by the deck mounted slider, the rudder is operated by an adjustable foot bar.

The robust SRS retracts undamaged if knocked, whatever the rudder setting. Just like a skeg, it mounts under the stern and so keeps the aesthetic lines of your kayak and doesn’t catch the wind. Using the same simple, reliable hydraulics as the Hydro Skeg® means it is low maintenance and totally corrosion resistant.

How it works

The SRS has two controls: a deck mounted slider to operate the skeg, plus a foot operated tiller to control the rudder action. The deck mounted slider is identical to the slider for Kari-Tek’s conventional skeg, and the skeg can be used to control the kayak with the skeg function alone if desired.

With the skeg in the fully down position, the skeg becomes operational as a rudder, with the rudder angle controlled with the foot operated tiller. The tiller is available in a different configurations to suit your boat and personal preference, either as an additional footplate or as a tiller post.

Just like a skeg, the skeg rudder blade can be retracted into the hull at any time using the deck mounted slider – regardless of the rudder angle setting.
